Jerry Hobbs 10.Dan and founder (Soke) of Seiwakan-Budo.
28 years ago he started with martial arts. 24 years ago
he began to train under Shihan Norbert Punzet (Germany)
the style Kun-Tai-Ko. This style was created and formed
by Soke Lucien Victor Ott in 1957 in Paris. He handed
his system over to one of his ushi-deshi Punzet. After a
long period of time of not beeing organized in any case,
we had a foundation meeting to found the World
Kun-Tai-Ko Budo Association. Belgium, Germany and
Switzerland attended this meeting. The idea was to work
together on an international basis and esspecially in a
non-political manner. All not organized Associations and
Dojos should find a new home of friendship martial
artists all over the World. But after only a few years
some officialls had the idea they must change already
existing and very well working style. Watching this
situation, Kleinschwärzer began to work against these
way of leading the association. He was creating a new
way of WKBA. A new, fantastic reorganization started and
the members realized very soon, that this is a perfect
way to stay without any interference. There is no
politic at all. Only a few basic rules the members have
to follow.

Jerry Hobbs 10. Dan from Illinois covers the back of the
international Coordinator Freddy Kleinschwärzer and the K.I.A.B..
The international office (located in Schechen-Germany)
organizes all events and occassions. There are no
dealers in the K.I.A.B. like you find in other
associations. Today you look around and soon you will
realise, that there are a lots of associations,
federations etc. orientated only in money of their
members. The officials in these organizations use the
power they got to change their characters and treat the
members not with the correct behaviors. You find
directors, presidents etc., but this is not neccessary
for an friendship association.
The aim of
the K.I.A.B. is, to give all non organized Dojos,
Associations, Federations etc. a new, a better home to
practice martial arts without any interference and with
a absolutely non-political background.
They
should get the chance to train together with friends in
our small but growing martial arts family. We meet each
year to train together during a international training
camp and an international seminar or an international
trainingcamp with great instructors and grandmasters
from all over the World. The K.I.A.B. gives you an
official recognition and of course a recognition of your
current rank. There are no problems involved and no high
costs or fees.
Since
April 1981 I’m married to my wife Stefanie. I met her
during my basictraining with the Federal Police
Borderguard of Germany in Coburg. After some nice month
we had together, I took her with me to my town Rosenheim
near Munich. I’m very glad to have a wife like her,
because sometimes she helps me to do two things at the
same time. She is also extremely into the martial arts.
1987 she passed her blackbelt test. In 1985 she won the
European Championships in Semicontact-Kickboxing. She
bet a female fighter from Japan in the finals. 1987 she
opened a martial arts school for children in
Rosenheim/Germany. All the years before, she assisted me
in developing the martial arts in our area and in our
Dojo. After Dennis was born (now 12 years), she stopped
with the martial arts to be 100 % mother. September 94
she started out doing education in fitness and she did
get her degree as an Step-Reebok Instructor. Now she
starts also to come back into the martial arts again.
Even our son Dennis is now, after 7 years of children
martial arts practising ready to get his kids blackbelt
this december.
I came
into the martial arts like a virgin to a baby. In my
school class was always one of my friends running on his
big toes through the classroom. We asked him how he can
do something painful. His answer was quite simple. I do
Kun-Tai-Ko Martial Arts. Now I was curious about this
training and signed in on September 1977. After a few
training events I recognized that this was all a big
fraud. I found out very fast that there is more to do
than to run on your toes all day long. From the first
day on I was fascinated from all the possibilities you
have with your body. About one year later I had a bad
experience with a scumbag - guy on the street. There I
had to use the first time ever my little knowledge about
martial arts and it was my big luck. Otherwise I would
be in the hospital and probably suffer on some serious
injuries. From now on I swore to my self that I will
never give up Martial Arts again. In January 79 I joined
the Federal Police Germany, the former Federal Police
Border guards. I had to stop my soccer carrier which was
also very successful at this time ( I did play soccer
beside the martial Arts training). The basic training
for the Police was hundreds of miles away from my town
and I was forced for a break. But Martial Arts I still
could train, because it is an individualist sport you
can train also as a single person. I trained for about 2
years on my own until I came back to my town. There a
friend of mine and black belt opened his first school
for Kun-Tai-Ko Karate and Self Defence near my town. He
asked me whether I would like to help him as an
assistant. Of course I did. And a close friendship
started out. One and a half year later he had to leave
to another town and he asked me whether I could take
over this school. I did so and the Dojo is still running
quite good. Sensei Bernard taught me more than just
martial arts, he gave me the basics for my future. I
have learned under him the respect, discipline and
always to aim for an score. My score is to spread the
name Kun-Tai-Ko all over the world and teach martial
arts in honour and with proud to my students. Soon,
after he left the Dojo I started to expand Kun-Tai-Ko
Karate. I began near Munich to teach in a house of
corrections for young people. It was a project I did
together with a psychologist for one year. Right after
my work in the police I headed of direction Munich to
give the class. Afterwards I hurried back to my town to
give the class there. My days were over every day at
about 11 p.m. After this project was done, I opened an
other Dojo in my town. It was called MTV - Rosenheim
1885 e.V. and it was always my dream to have Kun-Tai-Ko
in this Club. After this Dojo was running very good too,
I began to think about opening a new school. But one
night my telephone rang. The US-Army Base sports
director from the Bad Aibling Barracks called me to ask,
whether I would like to become a Instructor for Karate
and Self Defence there. It was a perfect timing, because
I anyway was going to start a new school. At the first
couple month I had problems with the language, but then
everything turned out great for me. Now I was running 3
Dojo at the same time and I was it who gave the classes.
That this is impossible for a long period is more than
normal. So I decided to give one of my Dojo to my best
Black belt student Günther Kurth. After a couple years I
had some good new black belt students which need
something to do. In 1991 I said to my self; Freddy it is
time to open a new school and give one of the old Dojo
to one of your masters again. I did so and Walter C.
Riddle took over the Army-Dojo with all the American
students. I started right afterwards my next school in
downtown Rosenheim. One year long I had two schools
running very good. In March 1992 I was thinking a little
bit ahead into the future. I could go with my job as
Bodyguard or Security to almost any country in the World
to one of the German Embassies. I did the entire
requirement I needed for this duty and they sent me for
one year to Dublin Ireland. That meant that some of my
other new black belts have to take over my schools in
Germany. It was not difficult to find two honest
students. Two of my black belts came along and offered
their help while I am abroad. Meanwhile I studied in
Dublin two new styles of Martial Arts.
With
Anthony Carrick the style of Ryoi-Shinto-Ryu Ju-Jitsu
and with Liam McDonagh, at present 4.Dan the traditional
style of Chuan-Fa or Kenpo-Karate. In just a few month I
was a kind of famous in Dublin because I won almost all
the championships I entered. No matter which style. I
won fighting and I won all Forms tournaments over
there. With my special training in Bodyguarding and
Police work, the English Grandmaster and Director of the
International Bodyguard Association, James G. Shortt 8th
Dan, appointed me as one of his national representatives
for the IBA-Germany. My plans for the future: - spread
out the name Kun-Tai-Ko, sooner or later to open a
centre for fitness and martial arts- to establish a
place for training of Bodyguards, Securities and
Doormen. Right back from the Embassy I founded
the Kun-Tai-Ko International Association of Budo, with
the Hombu-Dojo in Germany. This K.I.A.B. is official
recognized with the Dentokan Martial Arts
Federation (World Hombu)! From December 1993 until 1995
I was working for the German Embassy as a special
security in Peking / PR China. There I had the great
opportunity to meet the Scotsman Colin Whitehead - now
one of my best friends - and we shared lots of time
together. He is a 3rd Dan Goju-Ryu Karate. Now he is
living together with his lovely wife in Sofia /
Bulgaria. After Beijing I had to decide to do something
different in my job. I took the chance and went to lots
of special education seminars for becoming a former
instructor for self-defence for police special units.
Also I did for several years a job, not many policemen
like. I deported and deport until today illegal refugees
and foreign criminals by airplane back to their
Countries. For that reason I was already working in
Vietnam, Thailand, Algeria, Tunisia, Nigeria etc.! From
1999 until 2000 I served as Chief of Security again at
the German Embassy. This time the Government sent me to
Ankara/Turkey! I was responsible for 25 Turkish Security
and taught them close combat and other important
knowledge about security self-defence technique. At the
end of my appointment I opened together with an Turkish
Ju-Jutsu Instructor in Antalya a school for Ju-Jutsu in
a Holliday Village near Kemer. Ali Cenap Ertay is a
Professor of Psychology and teacher for history, martial
arts and yoga.
My
present assignment is Chief Instructor for the United
Nations Mission in Kosovo at the Kosovo Police Service
Training Department. In the Kosovo Police Academy in
Vushtrri I am responsible to teach the Kosovo Police
Officers in recertification.
